Vacuum Bed UV Exposure Units

The Xeros single sided range

A high specification vacuum bed unit

Our range of uv exposure units can be used to make hot foil polymer plates, pad printing cliches, uv processed sign making materials and PCBs. The Xeros range of single and double sided (DS) vacuum bed UV units feature an attractive low profile aluminium case, and are fitted with an advanced electronic timer controller. The timer is controlled from a touch membrane panel that includes a digital display which reads from 0 – 999 seconds.

The lid is raised and lowered with the assistance of internally fitted gas struts, and a safety cut out device is incorporated to prevent the tubes from operating when the lid is raised. Mains power is introduced via a fused I.E.C panel mounted socket, which incorporates a separate double pole ON/OFF rocker switch.

Operation of the unit is simple. Set the time in seconds, close the lid and press the start button. An integral vacuum pump then begins and first removes the air from the chamber to ensure perfect contact between artwork and material to be exposed. After vacuum has been achieved, the exposure cycle begins. During exposure, the timer counts down and once the cycle is complete, the display returns to the original setting, an exposure complete light illuminates, and a buzzer sounds for 3 seconds. (Note that the lid can only be released once a valve releases the vacuum.) The exposure complete light will remain on until the lid is lifted, which acts as a safeguard against the possibility of double exposure cycles.

The Xeros single sided vacuum bed UV exposure unit can be used to do the following:

  • Produce water and solvent washable pad printing plates
  • Produce water washable hot foil printing plates
  • Process the ID-MARK® imaging system
  • Produce single sided PCBs
  • Produce glass engraving stencils

The Xeros range of UV units should be purchased when fine detail or photographic reproduction is required. Where this is not the case, the Axos range will prove more than adequate.

  • Neoprene rubber vacuum blanket and foam gasket
  • Vacuum pump for accurate exposure
  • 6 – 12 UV tubes (15 – 20 watt each) depending on model
  • Gas struts to support lid when open
  • Lid interlock switch to cancel exposure if opened whilst unit is operating
  • Lights in lid of unit
  • Digital timer (999 seconds)
  • Lid claps to hold lid in place during exposure
  • 12 month warranty

The Xeros double sided range

Double side exposure made easy!

In addition to traditional single sided exposure systems, the Xeros range of exposure devices can be supplied as double sided systems. Clients that need to expose both sides of a PCB at the same time, in registration, will find the Xeros double sided range (DS) of great benefit.

Naturally, the Xeros double sided range (DS) can also be used to expose single sided PCB’s at the flick of a switch!

Our range of double sided (DS) vacuum bed UV units are an essential tool in the production of double sided PCB’s. By exposing both sides of the board at the same time, the issue of registering two separate exposures on a single sided exposure device is removed. The Xeros double sided (DS) units are similar to the standard Xeros vacuum bed range except for one importance difference – they have a flexible mylar film in front of the tubes contained in the lid which closes onto a glass base beneath which there is another set of UV tubes.

The Xeros double sided vacuum bed UV exposure unit can be used to do the following:

  • Produce water and solvent washable pad printing plates
  • Produce water washable hot foil printing plates
  • Process the ID-MARK® imaging system
  • Produce double sided PCBs
  • Produce glass engraving stencils

For additional flexibility, the Xeros double sided (DS) range can also be used as a single sided exposure device by simply turning off the lower set of tubes.

  • Neoprene rubber vacuum blanket and foam gasket
  • Vacuum pump for accurate, high definition exposure
  • Lights in lid and base of unit
  • Gas struts to support lid when open
  • Lid interlock switch to cancel exposure if opened whilst unit is operating
  • 8 – 22 UV tubes (15 – 20 watt each) depending on model
  • Digital timer (999 seconds)
  • Lid claps to hold lid in place during exposure
  • 12 month warranty

Frequently Asked Questions

and the answers for: Vacuum bed UV exposure units

The Xeros range of single and double sided exposure units are very straightforward machines to use, but like most straightforward products, sometimes it is necessary to provide some background information that will help to clarify initial concerns. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions and we hope that these will help you to decide if either one of these products is the machine for your business.

Any UV processed material such as polymer printing plates for pad and hot foil printing machinery, PCB’s, glass engraving stencils and some sign making products can be exposed on the Xeros range of single or double sided UV units.

A vacuum bed exposure unit uses a neoprene rubber blanket which is connected to a vacuum pump to pull the artwork and substrate tightly against each other during the exposure cycle. Vacuum is maintained for the entire exposure time but the pump can be switched off during post exposure.

This allows a much higher level of definition to be exposed onto the printing plate, PCB or engraving stencil than can be achieved with a pressure pad unit.

The simple answer is no. If you need to work with very fine detail, rather invest in a vacuum bed UV exposure unit such as the Xeros range. We offer a number of different sized vacuum bed exposure devices including both single and double sided systems.

If a person has never used a UV unit before, then it may make no difference which model is purchased. However, some users prefer one format over the other. When artwork and substrate are put inside the Black Box unit, they must be placed on the exposure glass in the following order – artwork first which will appear to be the wrong way round at this point, and then the substrate. With the Axos unit, due to the fact that the lights are housed in the base, the substrate material is first placed on the foam pressure pad, then the artwork after which the glass lid is closed against the foam pressure pad.

Both units are fitted with a digital timer that can accept and exposure time of up to 500 seconds.

Simply plug the unit into the mains, and timer will switch on. Open the lid (two lids on the Axos system) and place the artwork inside the device. Close the lid again, select the exposure time by using the up or down arrow of the touch membrane control panel and then press start. The timer display with then begin to count down the selected exposure time. Once the exposure has finished, the display will return to the time that was originally used.

A standard 13 amp domestic plug socket is needed.

Both of these units are the size of a large briefcase hence a relatively small desk or table is the perfect place to operate them.
